# Working with Clients

> Communication, scope, and availability

## Communication

**Slack** is primary. Check it regularly during working hours.

Some clients use Slack Connect (you join their workspace). Others prefer email. Your client will confirm.

## When to escalate to ThirstySprout

* Blocked for more than 1 business day
* Scope is changing or client requests extra work
* Payment or time tracking issues
* Any professional conduct concerns

## Scope changes

<Warning>
  Don't start out-of-scope work without looping in ThirstySprout first.
</Warning>

All scope changes need approval from ThirstySprout leadership. This protects you from unpaid work.

## Running low on work?

1. Tell your client what you need to proceed
2. Propose alternative tasks (tests, docs, refactors)
3. If blocked 1+ day, bring in ThirstySprout

## Time off

* Provide **1 week notice** when possible
* Message ThirstySprout support on Slack
* Coordinate coverage with your client

For emergencies, message your client and ThirstySprout ASAP.
